Playgrounds in Huntersville

Huntersville has nine parks with playgrounds that are open to the public, but there isn’t a list anywhere online. We visited all of them so you can skip the research and get right to enjoying them.
Where to Find Playgrounds in Huntersville
Huntersville Parks and Recreation manages eleven parks across Huntersville, but not every park has a playground. The map below shows which parks have playgrounds.

Playground Amenities
We are all different people with different needs, and our needs change over time. A parent of toddlers might prioritize fencing. Someone visiting on a hot summer afternoon cares a lot about shade. The table below is a quick way to look for what matters to you most before you make the trip.

The Playgrounds

Abernethy Park
Abernethy Park is set in a quiet neighborhood. This park and playground were renovated in 2024 and has new, modern ADA-compliant equipment. The other elements of the park (basketball court, baseball field, bathroom shelter, and covered tables) are near the playground and easy to see, which makes it easier to manage kids of different ages at once. The bathrooms have modern amenities, like changing tables and a water bottle refill station.

Blythe Landing Park
The style of the playground at Blythe Landing Park mirrors its’ environment; a wooded play area. This playground is built around freestanding rope net climbing structures, balance elements, slides, and overhead bars rather than a series of towers. While the other park features (like sand volleyball and boating) are a short distance from the playgrounds themselves, benches, picnic tables, and nearby bathroom structure make it easy to come and stay for a while.

Greenway Park
Greenway Park is just the playground area and is the smallest one on our list, nestled in a quiet neighborhood. Both because of its size and that it is fenced and gated, it is a good choice for little ones who need a contained space. Equipment includes a kids-sized climbing wall, slides, and swings. Because there are no bathrooms and limited street parking, this park lends itself to a short play break away.

Holbrook Park
The main climbing unit at Holbrook Park (ages 5–12) is the largest single playground structure in Huntersville's park system, with multiple levels, slides, bridges, ladders, and stairs to move about. A smaller unit for ages 2–5 and a six-swing swingset are nearby. Tall trees provide real shade throughout, and multiple covered pavilions add seating. The Park has pickleball and tennis courts and is within walking distance of downtown Huntersville (including 760 Craft Works and Discovery Place Kids).

Huntersville Athletic Park
The two playgrounds in Huntersville Athletic Park are split across a parking lot. Both are about the same size and similar equipment. The one designated for younger children has a bathroom just down the sidewalk, while the other playground area is across the parking lot. Huntersville Athletic Park can get very busy with events, and the playgrounds are conveniently located to those activity areas.

North Mecklenburg Park
North Mecklenburg Park has two separate playgrounds, one near the front entrance and one in the back of the park (and it’s a long walk between them for young ones). While both playgrounds are designed for 5-12 year olds (according to the posted signage), the one closer to the entrance sits near a fenced splash pad, sandbox, 4-seat seesaw, and swings, which seems to make it better suited for younger kids. The back playground has a three story climbing structure and an unusual three-dimensional climbing polyhedron.

R.C. Bradford Park
The two playground areas in this park are next to each other, with picnic tables on a concrete slab between them. There are 8 swings here - 2 toddler, 2 adaptive swings, and 4 regular swings. R.C. Bradford Park is a large park (213 acres) hosting large community and sporting events, and these playgrounds provide something for younger children not participating in those scheduled events. The absence of walkable bathrooms and shade makes this playground difficult as a longer destination.

Richard Barry Memorial Park
Richard Barry Memorial Park has two adjacent playgrounds. ‘Tread Town,’ the larger one, has educational signs about tire recycling and has lots of open space to run around. The playground equipment is close to the ground, making it easy for adults to stand adjacent to kids playing on the structure. The covered picnic tables and bathroom structure with water fountains help offset the lack of shade in the play area. Richard Barry Memorial Park has six fields and disc golf, so the playground often gets used by families who are here for other events.

Rosedale Nature Park
In addition to the traditional climbing elements, slides, and towers, Rosedale Nature Park’s playground has a number of elements unique among Huntersville’s community play areas, including a zip line and merry-go-round. Outside the fence, there's a separate play area with large slides built into a hillside, especially useful for kids who've finished with the main structure. Nearby walking trails let this park be part of a destination for outdoor family time.
